Serial rapist nabbed in Pinetown

He was remanded in custody until Friday,16 September for a bail application.

SAPS Investigative Psychology Unit arrested a 45-year-old man for the rapes he committed in Waterloo, Verulam. The suspect was arrested while he was at his workplace in Pinetown.

According to police spokesman, Lt Col Thulani Zwane, police have been investigating the case for years until this arrest was made.

“The suspect has been positively linked to a total of 11 cases of rape through DNA. The suspect would accost couples and young girls and rape them at gunpoint in Waterloo and its surroundings,” he said.

Zwane said police have been investigating cases with the same modus operandi that were first reported from September 2008 to July 2016.

“The suspect appeared at the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 9 September and he was remanded in custody until Friday,16 September for a bail application,” Zwane.

SAPS appeals to other people who had been victims of the same incidents and who have not reported it to the police, to come forward.
