UPDATE: Municipality notifies residents of water shutdown

Some areas in the Highway area will also be affected.

MORE areas will be affected by the water shutdown in the upper Highway area on Thursday, 8 and Friday, 9 September. The areas include Assagay, Botha’s Hill, Alverstone, Hillcrest Gillitts, Winston Park, Everton, Kloof, Stockville and Waterfall.

eThekwini Municipality has issued a press statement to notify residents about the water shutdown which will affect them from Thursday, 8 September.

“Umgeni Water has to carry out essential work at the Midmar Dam raw water pump station. This work is required to enhance future security and sustainability of the water supply in the uMgungundlovu District, Pietermaritzburg and parts of Durban,” said Tozi Mthethwa, eThekwini Municipality’s head of communications.

“In order for this work to be executed quickly and effectively, raw water supply from the Midmar Dam to the Midmar Water Works and DV Harris Water Treatment Plant will have to be shut for an estimated 30-hour period,” explained Mthethwa.

Work at the Midmar Dam raw water pump station will commence on Thursday, 8 September from 8am and is scheduled to be completed on the afternoon of Friday, 9 September.
