New councillor shares her plans for ward 65

"I plan to put pressure on the current municipality to improve service delivery," Samantha Windvogel.

MEET Samantha Windvogel. She is the new ward 65 councillor and is ready to tackle challenges and serve her community for the next five years.

“I’m a jovial, easy going and hard working person. My heart lies with the community,” she said. Windvogel finds pleasure in developing, empowering and uplifting people. “I’m the dependable type who is very gregarious. I also find solace in having issues resolved.”

Windvogel who has adjusted to her new job, said she was overjoyed when she learned that residents in ward 65 had placed their trust in her for the 2016-2021 term. “At first I had to pinch myself. I was ecstatic and also humbled after winning the ward. Knowing that so many people put their trust in me and the DA made me extremely emotional,” she explained. The DA received almost 3 000 more votes this year as compared to the 2011 elections.

She might be a new councillor, but she is well acquainted with the demands of her job. Windvogel joined the South Durban Constituent with the DA in 2011 and occupied the secretary position of ward 72 and later became the chairman. In 2012, she represented the DA as a ward 72 candidate in the Bi-Elections. The following year, she was elected as the chairman of South Durban ward 72. She is also involved in many feeding schemes and upliftment projects.

“I want the voice of the people to be heard. I plan to put pressure on the current municipality to improve service delivery and work hand in hand with the communities in the ward. I will highlight the interest and concerns of the people. I promise to continue ensuring the community’s interests are put first at all times and to hold the ANC accountable.”

She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all the DA supporters for believing in the party’s vision. Windvogel said she is confident in the change she will bring to the community. She can be contacted on 074 323 3900.
