Local doctor offers free skin cancer screening to raise awareness

THE Skin Cancer Foundation of South Africa is holding its national skin cancer screening day on Thursday,1 September.
Dermatologists from all over the country will volunteer their services and provide skin cancer screenings at no charge at their practices on this day.
Among these practitioners is Dr Sarvesh Jaikarun who will offer free screening at his practice at Link Hills Shopping Centre at Shop 105 B, Inanda Road, Waterfall (opposite the Watercrest Mall).
Skin cancer is very prevalent in South Africa and can be quite devastating to patients and their families. Public knowledge about
skin cancer is very limited, and greater awareness is required. The aim of this campaign is to increase public awareness and knowledge
of skin cancer by providing free screenings and disseminating useful information to the general public. This will hopefully result in skin
cancers being diagnosed earlier, which allows for more treatment options, and for better treatment outcomes to be achieved.
“I have decided to volunteer my time and services because I believe it is important that dermatologists be actively involved in raising awareness
about skin cancer. Our extensive training and knowledge on all skin diseases, including skin cancers, enables us to much more accurately assess
and diagnose lesions on the skin which may be cancerous.”
