CARLENE Taylor is Waterfall College’s SPAR Star of the Month. Carlene is a modest, hard working Grade 11 pupil, who earned her honours in swimming, colours in academics and a position in the KZN provincial swimming quad.
Early morning swimming training and regular gym workouts keep Carlene exceptionally busy as she completes her Grade 11 year and prepares to enter matric.
Her parents, John and Lesley Taylor, said, “We are very proud of Carlene. Balancing academics and sport is never easy. Achieving academic colours at school and reaching her goals in swimming requires discipline and determination.”
Swimming coach, Angela Marlton, spends many hours working with Carlene. “Carlene quietly goes about her training on a day to day basis without requiring heaps of motivation and pushing from me in order to give of her best. I believe she will silently make her way to the top level of the sport in time to come and because of how humble she is, no-one would have seen her coming.”
Principal, Jeanette van der Merwe, said, “Carlene has an exceptional inner strength and determination that is revealed through her remarkable sporting and academic achievements. We fully support her post-matric dream of swimming and studying in America. Well done, Carlene.”
