Security guard arrests armed thug in Pinetown

The security guard noticed the three suspicious men walking through Pinetown and chose to pursue them.

AFTER the recent spate of crime in the Pinetown area, the arrest of a 23-year-old with a loaded firearm by a Blue Security armed reaction officer is a welcome reprieve.

The vigilant armed officer also recovered a loaded firearm and a blood stained shirt during the arrest. Blue Security’s operations manager, Brian Jackson, said the officer was on duty near Heaton Nicholls Drive when he spotted three men behaving suspiciously just after 3pm last Friday afternoon.

“He noticed a man signalling to two others to follow him as he walked towards Winston Churchill Road, after coming up from under a bridge on the M7 Highway. Our officer started his vehicle and slowly followed them, focusing on one of the men who was carrying a bag.

“He approached the group and two of the men fled on foot across the M7 Highway but he arrested the third man who was armed with a firearm. He also found a black shirt with a blood stain on it in the man’s bag,” he said.

The suspect was handed over to the Pinetown SAPS at the scene. “We commend the dedication and bravery of our officer who was vigilant and proactive in single-handedly effecting this arrest, which may well have thwarted the armed gang from going on to commit a serious and violent crime in the suburb,” concluded Jackson.
