Academy aims to change lives

World Changers Academy assist unemployed young people with life skills.

WORLD Changers Academy (WCA) in Shongweni invited business, corporate and individuals to a business breakfast where they opened an opportunity to partner with WCA.

The academy which trains unemployed young people with life skills was started in 2002.

Marketing manager at the academy, Wendy Ngcobo said in a year, 1858 people attend one of the 75 different 20-day (including one week of volunteerism) life skills courses in more than 27 different communities.

“WCA has trained 9000 high school pupils in life skills and 1000 in residential leadership programmes since 2003.”

She said the aim of the academy is to empower people through training programmes, helping them to change and develop their minds to better their lives.

“Our programmes have transformed and empowered criminals, substance abusers, people who are affected by HIV/AIDS, people who have lost hope in life and victims of abuse,” explained Ngcobo.

While WCA’s majority is young people (13 to 35 years) their programmes also cater for people who are older than 35.

The academy runs three major programmes; life skills training, leadership training for emerging leaders and follow up – linking students with employers, study, entrepreneurial and volunteer opportunities.
