St Benedict host Science Expo

Fun educational activities at St Benedict School Science Expo.

ST Benedict School was recently a hive of activity with the fifth annual SBS Science Expo taking place.

The school hall was transformed into a platform of working models, including the wonders of the microscopic world made visible, cellphone technology, hydroponics, DYI, plant and human development, the unraveling of the mysteries of genetics and much more.

The Life Sciences and Physical Science pupils from Grade 8 to Grade 11 intrigued staff and visitors with their Science projects which were categorised into Pure Sciences, Applied Sciences and Life Sciences.

The projects were judged by external judges from University of Durban Westville, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban University of Technology and Holy Family College.

SBS teacher, Shareen Gould said pupils interacted with the judges and visitors and presented their research with precision and confidence, while also gaining insight and valuable encouragement from the judges.

“The standard and quality of the research undertaken by pupils ensured that the science expo was a success. The highlight of the expo was a reptile show at the prize-giving ceremony where pupils got to enjoy a hands-on encounter with various reptiles.
