Elderly woman seriously injured in M19 smash

The SAPS will investigate the cause of the crash.

A WOMAN in her 70s suffered serious injuries after the car she was driving smashed into the back of a broken down vehicle on the M19, Durban bound, near the Blair Atholl offramp just after 1.30pm today (Wednesday, 10 August).

According to Garrith Jamieson, Rescue Care operations director, paramedics arrived on the scene and found the elderly woman entrapped in the wreckage.

“Rescuers from Durban Fire Department used hydraulic equipment to cut her free while paramedics stabilised her inside the vehicle. Once stabilised and freed, paramedics extricated her from the wreckage on a specialised spinal equipment before transporting her to a nearby hospital,” said Jamieson.
