Supporters gather for Ethelbert AGM

The standard of child-care had improved due to the diligence of the staff team under the leadership of the Director, Vanessa Theophilus.

ETHELBERT Child and Youth Care Centre celebrated its 109th year with friends, donors and members of the founding Corbishley family at the Annual General Meeting on Saturday 23, July. The meeting was presided over by chairperson, Kathryn Buchanan who, in tabling her annual report, made special mention of the generosity of members of the public in supporting the work at Ethelbert. The standard of child-care had improved due to the diligence of the staff team under the leadership of the Director, Vanessa Theophilus.

“The centre had been able to undertake much needed maintenance of the aging buildings. David Cory presented the annual financial statements and it was gratifying that in these difficult times Ethelbert was able to meet all financial obligations. The gathered assembly was entertained by the children, who performed excellently under the guidance of Tamara Wentzel, lecturer at the UKZN drama department,” Vanessa Theophilus explained.

Ernie Nightingale, who has 27 years in child care experience, was the guest speaker. He reminded delegates of the importance of paying attention to the needs of others and making sufficient time to listen to those who may call upon it. He emphasised that people, especially children in care, are easily discouraged when they are made to feel devalued and useless.
