Woman (23) arrested for abandoning newborn

The baby was taken to an orphanage after it was dumped in KwaNyuswa.

HILLCREST police have arrested a 23-year-old woman for dumping her new-born baby in KwaNyuswa.

According to Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Cst Ndumiso Manqele, it is suspected that no one in her family knew that she was pregnant, including her boyfriend.

“The woman gave birth while she was alone at her home and dumped the baby near Valley trust clinic in KwaNyuswa,” he said.

The baby. who was two days at the time, was found by people who were going to work at around about 5.30am and the child was taken to the clinic for checkups.

”Hillcrest police were informed about the incident and the case of abandonment of a child by parent was opened for further investigations and the child was taken to an orphanage.

”The story was published in various media and the woman saw the article and decided to inform her boyfriend about the incident,” said Manqele.

The boyfriend contacted the police and the woman was arrested in Hammarsdale.
