Durban beaches closed due to storm damage

A major clean-up operation will be undertaken

NORTH and South beaches in Durban have been closed due to high seas and storm damage. According to eThekwini Municipality, the decision to close beaches has been taken as a precautionary measure – to ensure the safety of residents and holidaymakers.

“There is extensive structural damage on Durban’s beaches following heavy rains that started on Sunday 24 July. There is also a huge amount of flotsam and jetsam as well as organic matter in the water,” said Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa.

A major clean-up operation will be undertaken. The public will be notified once the beaches have been re-opened.
