Waterfall prep to open its doors in 2017

There will be new classes for Grade 1 to 3 pupils at the Waterfall College campus from next year.

WATERFALL College will welcome its new addition of a preparatory school which will open in January 2017 for Grade 1 to Grade 3.

The growth of the preschool since its arrival on the iThemba Campus earlier this year is a testament to its success. In line with the new vision the three Waterfall College schools will consist of Waterfall Pre-Primary School that covers infant to pre-school, Waterfall Preparatory School from Grade R to Grade 7 and Waterfall College Senior School from Grade 8 to Grade 12.

The Waterfall Preparatory School serves to fill the gap between the Waterfall pre-primary school and Waterfall College. The class sizes of Waterfall Preparatory are expected to be 24 with two classes per grade, totalling 192 pupils from Grade R to Grade 3.

“Building on the established Waterfall College five pillars of academics, sports, culture, leadership and service, the Waterfall Preparatory School will aim to grow the range of extra-murals available to its students,” said Waterfall College’s principal, Jeanette van der Merwe.

The sports activities already in place on campus are soccer, rugby, fitness, cross country, karate, majorettes and netball. The school will also have state of the art classroom facilities and eight classrooms are being built as art and music rooms for the children to express their creativity.

“This is an important development for the Upper Highway community, which is developing year on year as people move into the Hillcrest and Kloof area. As a non-profit company, Waterfall Preparatory allows for innovation and flexibility and a personal approach,” said Jeanette.

The Upper Highway will gain from jobs created through the new facility, as the Foundation Phase kicks off with eight teachers, one administrator and one groundskeeper during just the beginning period. The construction of the new school has been done using local companies and local labour. The campus will also be experiencing a range of infrastructure upgrades, including the internal road network on the iThemba Campus. This follows the impressive new campus entrance which was built earlier this year.
