Hijacker rams gate over victims in Bellair

"In the pandemonium the resident and his friend managed to apprehend one of the suspects, but the other two fled the scene. A gun which had been damaged during the incident was recovered at the scene," said Brain Jackson of Blue Security.

A BELLAIR resident and a friend had a miraculous escape when a hijacker rammed a driveway gate and drove over one of them on Sunday night, 17 July.

Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson, said the friend who had arrived to collect some goods, was held at gunpoint by three robbers who attempted to hijack him of his vehicle. The resident and another friend were standing inside the Sarnia Road property behind the gate at the time. The incident occurred at around 7.30pm.

“As the hijacker tried to drive off with the vehicle, instead of reversing the car, he drove forward and rammed the gate, which collapsed on the resident’s sons and their friend. The car also then crashed into the back of a stationary vehicle that was parked in the driveway,” said Jackson.

“In the pandemonium the resident and his friend managed to apprehend one of the hijackers but the other two fled the scene. A gun which had been damaged during the incident was recovered at the scene.” He said paramedics attended the scene and transported the three injured victims to hospital, while provincial ambulance services treated the hijacker at the scene before taking him to a nearby hospital.

Bellair SAPS attended the scene of the crime. “The firearm and the vehicle were both recovered. The suspect has appeared in court and will appear again on Tuesday, 26 July for a bail application. We are currently following leads we have on the other two suspects and encourage anyone with any information regarding this case to come forward,” said acting communications officer, W/O Prakash Kumar.
