1 dead, 2 injured in accident

"The body of the deceased was found nearby and paramedics were unfortunately unable to initiate any treatment due to the severity of the injuries sustained," said Ceron Lennox of Rescue Care Paramedics.

TWO people, including a baby, were injured and one person was declared dead when a vehicle crashed into a pedestrian who was crossing the Hans Dettman Freeway near Shallcross at around 6.45am on Thursday, 21 July.

Rescue Care Paramedics found that the vehicle had rolled several times coming to rest on its wheels after knocking over a pedestrian who was crossing the road at the time. Advanced Life Support Paramedic, Ceron Lennox, said: “A baby and relative were treated on scene. The baby was found lying a small distance from the vehicle after being ejected from the car. The body of the deceased was found nearby and paramedics were unfortunately unable to initiate any treatment due to the severity of the injuries sustained.”

The patients from the vehicle were transported by Rescue Care to a nearby hospital. It is unclear what caused the collision, however, the necessary authorities were on scene and are investigating. “Rescue Care appeals to all parents to ensure children are strapped into age appropriate car seats in accordance to the law to avoid unnecessary injuries or fatalities,” Lennox added.
