HACT’s training centre opens its doors

As a way to generate an extra income, the local NPO will also hire out the room to companies, organisations and churches.

THE air was filled with the sounds of jubilation at the opening of the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust’s training centre recently.

The converted garages were first used to house the NPO’s feeding scheme programme and have since received a complete overhaul, transforming it into an upmarket training room.

According to HACT’s marketing and fundraising manager, Claire Hodgkinson, the upgrade was funded by Martin and Hamilton, a construction company in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, a long-term supporter of the organisation. The centre has been named the Martin and Hamilton Training Centre in recognition of their generous support.

It will be used by HACT to run its various community training and skills development programmes such as its life skills and peer education programmes for local schools and its parenting skills workshops for grandmothers.

It will also be used as an income generation project and will be available for local businesses, organisations and churches to hire as a training, meeting or conference venue and can seat up to 40 people. It will be available for hire for R600 per day.

“On behalf of the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust, we would like to thank our funders, Martin and Hamilton for helping us to make this much-needed facility a reality. We encourage our local community to also support and make use of the centre which is ideally situated right here in the heart of Hillcrest.”
