Residents urged to be vigilant on the M7/N2

POLICE at Bellair station urge the community to be vigilant of robbers at the M7 and N2 intersection. This comes after an increase in the number of incidents being reported as having take place at the intersection. “In the last week alone, two cases were reported and there have been more, dating as far as January 2013,” said communications officer, W/O Prakash Kumar.

He said this led them to step up their frequent patrols in the area in the hopes of catching the robbers. “They hide behind the bush and mainly target females. They pretend to be beggars, approach your car with the intention of scouring for valuables that might be on the seat,” he explained.

W/O Kumar said an investigation led to finding of a pathway that leads to Cato Manor, and its is believed the robbers use this to flee. “We have found various objects behind the bushes including knifes, a gun, which was later found to be a toy, and a range of sharp objects,” he said.

W/O Kumar warned residents to not create opportunities for crime by leaving valuables on the seats, exposing cellphones and laptops, driving with the windows down as well as having shopping bags on the seats. “The operation yielded results as we’ve managed to arrest three suspects and have secured convictions,” he added.
