KLOOF Country Club’s Mowat Room was filled to capacity for the 11th Annual School of Garden Design Breakfast in aid of The Sunflower Fund on Thursday, 23 June.
According to Stephanie Berry, regional manager for the Sunflower Fund, it was a beautiful crisp winter morning and guests were welcomed with a hot beverage and the melodic tunes of singer, Allison Dee.
It was a morning of fun, food and flora and guests were spoilt with a two-course breakfast, fabulous goodie bags and prizes, shopping stalls and a Sorbet pamper station as well as a scrumptious dessert by Chateau Gateaux. The Sunflower Fund’s Allison Ekstrand, enlightened guests on the cause and role of the organisation which was followed by a moving video montage.
The event’s main attraction, editor of The Gardener Magazine, media personality and speaker, Tanya Visser, did not disappoint as she captivated the audience in an exhilarating account of this year’s Chelsea Flower Show. Tanya touched on a deeper note though when she stressed the importance of gratitude and embracing what and who is found in one’s immediate environment.
Organiser and host, Lindsay Gray, principal of The School of Garden Design, was delighted at yet another successful instalment of the event. Funds raised from the breakfast will enable The Sunflower Fund to create awareness, and to educate and recruit stem cell donors to increase the number of people registered on the South African Bone Marrow Registry. The more donors on the Registry, the more hope patients diagnosed with life threatening blood disorders, like leukaemia, have of finding their 1:100 000 life-saving donor match.
