SAPS Malvern hosts Youth Day at West Park

The performances promoted the youth and the significance of 16 June.

SAPS Malvern hosted a Youth Day Festival at West Park Special School to commemorate this year’s youth month on Wednesday, 15 June. Ten pupils from various neighbouring schools performed at the school hall, presenting a talent show with themes ranging from drugs, social media and social ills.

Guests included station commander, Lt-Col Valarine Reddy, and W/O Radhika Marimuthu of the Malvern SAPS, and the SAPS band, pupils from Northdene Preparatory School, Parkside Primary School and Queensburgh Primary School.

Principal at West Park School, Les Perumal, said it was a joy to see his pupils interact with others. “This event is the first of its kind at our school and we are honoured that SAPS Malvern chose to launch it with us. Hopefully it will continue over the years.

“It was so nice to see our learners with special needs interacting with learners from other schools. This event has promoted social etiquette.” Perumal added that it was good to have pupils producing and performing the various items showcased on the day.

“The performances promoted the youth and the significance of 16 June. My highlight was when the police band called learners to dance, which they did willingly. The band was multi-cultural with a wide range of genres, which was fantastic,” he said.
