Know more about vitiligo at hospital talks

A number of doctors will be at the Westville Hospital to shed light on the disorder.

THE Vitiligo Society of South Africa will hold talks by dermatologists on World Vitiligo Day, Saturday, 25 June at the Westville Hospital.

Vitiligo is a disorder in which white patches of skin appear on different parts of the body.

This happens because the cells that make pigment (colour) in the skin are destroyed. These cells are called melanocytes.

Vitiligo can also affect the mucous membranes (such as the tissue inside the mouth and nose) and the eyes.

Dr I Jhetam will talk on ‘Why Do I Have Vitiligo?’.

Dr L Naidoo will talk on ‘Psychological Aspects of Vitiligo’.

Dr C Sibisi will talk on ‘What is New in Dermatology?’.

Interviews with patients will be conducted by Dr N Raboobee.

The talks will take place from 2 to 4pm. attendance is free and snacks will be provided.
