Pupils exposed to the police world

They were introduced to the Pinetown SAPS management and got to know a bit about their jobs.

PUPILS from the Highway College, Westmead and Wyebank secondary schools attended a career guidance day at Pinetown SAPS.

Pupils were introduced to the Pinetown SAPS management and got to know a bit about their jobs.

They were also taken around the station to witness the daily running of the station. One of the departments they visited was the career centre, where they were taught about different careers in the police industry.

The SAPS Career Centre supports the concept of life management and the enhancement of education by providing SAPS employees, teachers, youth leaders, pupils, women and unemployed young people with career information and guidance pertaining to careers in the police industry.

In the career centre they were taught that in order to choose a career, a person needs to know their personality.

Pinetown SAPS station commander, Brig Bongi Sithole, said the purpose of the day was to make young people feel free and trust police officers.

“Pupils need to be able to communicate with us and report criminal activities in and around the school premises. They also need to know that there are lots of other careers within this industry.”
