Ward 10 councillor, Rick Crouch, has issued a warning to upper Highway schools and parents.

WARD 10 councillor, Rick Crouch, has issued a warning to upper Highway schools and parents after his son was approached by a stranger who offered him a lift.

“My son was leaving Hillcrest High School for a short walk home on Friday, 3 June when a strange white man attempted to talk him into his car outside the school. The vehicle, a small white or silver vehicle, was parked outside the school. “When my son walked by, he was asked if he needed a lift. He said no and kept walking.

“The man then started the vehicle drove down the street, made a U-turn and then drove back down in the direction my son was walking and slowed down, driving in the middle of Ridge Road because my son was on the opposite side of the road, and again he persistently asked my son if he wanted a lift. He aggressively said no a few more times and the vehicle sped off,” explained Crouch.

Crouch said this was more than someone just asking a person if they needed a ride. “The man was too persistent. The person was a white man in his early 20s with close-cropped, almost shaved, blonde or red hair.”
