Pieter Koekemoer won the 400-metre hurdles and is now a record-holder for SA and Africa in his age group.

LOCAL athlete and teacher, Pieter Koekemoer, recently became the 400-metre hurdles champion and record-holder for the African continent in his age group.

The Grade 6 teacher at Forest View Primary School, affectionately known as ‘Mr K’, took part in the SA Open Championships in Bloemfontein in the event during the first weekend of May. The following weekend he took part in the championship in Pretoria, and he won two gold medals and one silver medal. He holds two national titles as well as the South African and African records.

“We are proud to have a South African and African record-holder in our midst. The commitment that Mr K has shown to our school as a passionate teacher and sports coach and his dedication to his athletics training in order to achieve his own personal goals is amazing. His love for his wife, toddler and his newest addition arriving in August shows the calibre of person he is. FVPS is very proud of you. Well done, Mr K,” said Shayleen Shum, principal of Forest View Primary School.
