Two men arrested for hijacking and attempted murder

Two men are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrates Court soon.

THE Pinetown Trio Task Team arrested another two men aged 34 and 35 on Monday, 23 May for hijacking.

According to Maj Thulani Zwane, spokesman for KZN Provincial SAPS, this follows the arrest of the first robber on Tuesday, 17 May for the same case. The first man appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 18 May and was remanded into custody until 25 May for his bail application.

The men are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court soon.

“It is believed that on 27 April at about 9am, two victims were delivering bread in Wyebank near Pinetown when they were accosted by three armed men. Both victims were forced into their own vehicle and later the driver was shot before they dropped them near Inanda. Later the hijacked vehicle was found abandoned in the area. Cash and cellphones were taken from the victims.

The injured victim was taken to hospital for treatment. Cases of hijacking and attempted murder were opened at Pinetown police station for investigation,” said Zwane.

The acting KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Maj Gen Bhekinkosi Langa, praised the police officers for the arrest of the two men, who were allegedly involved in hijacking and attempted murder. “Our detectives will work hard and see if the arrested men are not wanted for other hijackings in the province,” he said.
