THE Hawks arrested Siyabonga Shabalala (21) for the murder of an off-duty policeman, Mthokozisi Phakathi (34), who was stationed at Mpumalanga Police Station.
On Tuesday, 17 May, Phakathi was shot twice by Shabalala. He was taken to the local clinic, where he succumbed to his injuries.
A case of murder was opened at Mpumalanga Police Station and the docket was transferred to the Hawks unit. An intensive investigation was conducted and Shabalala was arrested on Friday, 20 May.
He appeared in the Hammarsdale Magistrates’ Court yesterday, 23 May. The case was postponed to 30 May for the bail application.
