Petrol thieves hit Durban

The driver of a maroon-coloured Renault has hit two petrol stations in the Highway area.

A MOTORIST was caught on CCTV fleeing local petrol stations without paying after putting petrol into his car.

According to Blue Security’s operations manager, Brian Jackson, this is one of several cases that had been reported to the security company in the past week.

He warned petrol station owners in the Highway area to be on the lookout for a maroon-coloured Renault with ND registration plates, after a motorist had allegedly filled up at petrol stations in Pinetown and Westmead and refused to pay. “He filled up with R396 worth of petrol at a petrol station in Westmead and fled without paying. He then went on to fill up with R400 worth of petrol at another garage in Pinetown a few days later and again fled without paying,” he said.

A quick-thinking petrol attendant and supervisor arrested another motorist for allegedly stealing petrol at the pump. Blue Security’s operations manager, Brian Jackson, said a motorist was arrested at a petrol station in South Coast Road last Wednesday, 4 May.

“The motorist filled his vehicle with R500 worth of petrol and simply refused to pay. The petrol attendant and his supervisor promptly arrested him and handed him over to Metro Police,” he said.

Jackson said the petrol station managers had reported the cases to the police.
