THE Samsung Concept Store at the Pavilion recently embarked on an initiative for World Book Day urging the public to help by taking books to the stores that could be donated to the Ethelbert Child andYouth Care Centre. This initiative is to raise awareness about the importance of reading and to reach out and give people access to books.
With an excellent response from the public, Samsung’s PRO Shane Spencer delivered the books to the centre who were extremely grateful.
“Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre is a residential place of safety that cares for 65 children who have been removed from their parents because of abuse, severe neglect, abandonment, and those orphaned because of HIV/Aids. Ethelbert has been caring for and loving children since its inception in 1907, said Spencer. He further stated that the child and youth care centre prioritises breaking the cycle of abuse, building self-esteem and confidence of the children in their care which is achieved by providing the children with a stable and loving environment, counselling and therapeutic support, which helps them to work through and learn how to deal with their experiences.
“Their child-orientated programmes, dedicated residential social worker, psychologist, and childcare workers help children that are in their care to develop positive life-skills in a secure and loving environment.
