Local lads on the road to Hollywood

Three Westville Boys' High School pupils are fundraising for the trip to the 20th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts in Long Beach, California.

WITH 14 medals between them, including eight gold, won at the SA National Performing Arts Championship, Tristan Robertson, Murray Clark and Mickyle Jadunandan are looking to set the stage alight at the 20th annual World Championships of Performing Arts in Long Beach, California from 4 to 22 July.

The three will compete against talented singers, musicians, dancers and actors from more than 50 countries. The World Championship will earn the three their green blazers for competing for South Africa.

At the SA National Performing Arts Championships, Tristan and Murray entered five different genres in acting and Tristan received three gold, a silver and a bronze medal, and Murray received three gold and a silver medal. Mickyle entered five different types of dance styles and won two gold and three silver medals.

They are fundraising to meet the huge cost involved for the trip to the US and have organised a number of fundraisers. The first of these will be a fun quiz evening which will be held this Friday, 13 May at the Westville Boys’ High School Long Room at 6pm.

Tickets are R150 each (teams of four or eight) which includes a two-course meal. A cash bar will be available. The theme is Friday the 13th, with a prize for the best dressed with lucky draws and raffles on the night.
