N3 Shongweni crash leaves boy (3) dead and five injured

The mother and one of the girls sustained critical injuries while the dad and the other two girls were in a serious condition.

A VEHICLE overturned on the N3 south-bound just before the Shongweni off-ramp on Sunday afternoon, 8 May.

According to a reports by Netcare 911, the vehicle, carrying parents, three girls and a three-year-old-boy lost control in the wet weather, crashed through the barriers and came to rest on its side with two people still trapped in the wreckage.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found that a boy, aged between three and four, had been ejected from the vehicle and died due to the extensive injuries that he sustained,” said Netcare 911’s Chris Botha.

The rescue officer and fire-fighters used the jaws of life to firstly remove the passenger side doors to gain access before they removed the roof to allow medics to extricate that injured.

The family was treated at the scene before being transported to hospital.
