VIDEO: Armed robbers flee with two bags of cash

Police are investigating a case of an armed robbery at BB Bakeries in Wareing Road in Pinetown.

AN undisclosed amount of money was stolen during an armed robbery at BB Bakeries in Wareing Road, Hatton Estates in Pinetown late on Tuesday, 2 May.

According to Justin Bosse of the Ashley Residents’ Neighbourhood Watch, two men armed with AK-47s, approached the cash-in-transit vehicle that was there to pick up cash.

“We believe a number of gunshots was fired. They stole a pistol from one of the security members and fled with two bags of cash in a white Toyota Corolla. We believe a G4S security guard was shot in the arm,” said Bosse.

He added that neighbourhood watches were alerted and in a joint venture went out in search of the vehicle. The vehicle was last spotted heading down Underwood Road, driving recklessly.

Lt Bongumusa Manqele, Pinetown SAPS spokesman, said there have been no arrests yet but police are currently investigating the CCTV footage from the store to help identify the robbers.
