Armed gang attacks Gillitts man

The Gillitts man escaped the robbery with a few minor injuries.

A GILLITTS resident was lucky to escape with minor injuries during an armed robbery last Thursday morning.

Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson, said it was the second armed robbery in Bartle Road over a two day period. “The resident was accosted by three men, one of them armed with a knife, after he stepped outside his garage to pick up some avocado pears that had fallen onto the ground,” he said.

“He was walking to the kitchen to drop off the fruit when the men accosted him and a scuffle broke out. The gang grabbed the man’s laptop and a bunch of keys that he had been carrying and fled. The resident sustained minor bruising to his head,” he said.

Jackson said the gang returned a few minutes later and tried to open the garage door, but a neighbour had arrived to assist. “The gang jumped over the fence and fled the scene,” he said.

Hillcrest SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

Jackson added that an armed robber had targeted another property in the same road last Wednesday evening at around 5.40pm.

“A resident was in the bathroom when she heard a noise coming from the main bedroom window, where a robber had squeezed his way through the burglar bars. He held her up at knifepoint and fled with a box of jewellery,” he said.
