Lutheran school reaches out to charity

Careways is a non-profit organisation for the intellectually impaired adult and donations are always welcome.

NEW Germany Lutheran Pre-Primary School hosted a Zumbathon on Saturday, 16 April at the school. The event was to raise funds for the school as well as Careways, a caring organisation that reaches out to intellectually-impaired adults.

Principal, Trish Bentley, said hosting the event was a way for her school to give back to the community. “The Zumbathon is a fundraiser for our school and Careways Kloof as well as the Siyanakekela organisations. It is our way of trying to help by giving back to the community,” she said.

Careways manager, Tina Smith, said the organisations are a family unit. “Careways is a day workshop for intellectually-impaired adults. We do activities that include arts and crafts and academic programmes. We are also an active group, where we host zumba and visit libraries from time to time. It is a place where the impaired can come and be sociable,” she said.
