Public urged to comment on eThekwini development plan

Residents have until Monday, 2 May to submit their comments.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has urged residents to comment on its Draft Integrated Development Plan before Monday, 2 May.

According to eThekwini’s Thulani Mbatha, the document is crucial as it determines the municipality’s budget allocation.

“It is the key strategic document which guides and informs all planning, budgeting, management and decision-making related to delivering services and development in the municipal area,” said Mbatha.

He added that the public comments will help officials tackle issues around service delivery which have seen many communities embark on protest action. The eight-point plan includes creating a quality living environment, creating jobs and developing a prosperous economy, among other things.

“People can give input as well as comment on how they want certain projects to be implemented. These are all spheres, whether you come from the business perspective or just an ordinary resident, so it’s important that people participate in this process,” he said.

The draft IDP is available on the municipality’s website – www.durban.gov.za – and will also be placed in municipal libraries and Sizakala Centres.

Stakeholders are requested to provide written comments on the draft IDP. Residents have until Monday, 2 May to submit their comments.

Comments can be sent to Puven Akkiah, Corporate Policy Unit, 11th floor, Nedbank Building, 458 Smith Street, Durban or e-mail Puvendra.Akkiah@durban.gov.za.
