Waterfall man beaten by robbers

Three men smashed into the Waterfall home and made away with a few electronic items.

A WATERFALL man was injured in a fight with robbers during a home invasion on Sunday morning.

A gang of three robbers gained entry onto the premises of a couple’s Brackenhill Road home at around 1.30am. “The robbers picked up patio chairs and used them to smash the glass sliding door to gain entry,” said Brian Jackson, Blue Security’s operations manager.

South Africa Community Crime Watch responded to the incident and upon arrival found the home owner, Steve Greenwood, lying on his verandah with a deep gash to his head and lacerations on his arms and leg. Steve armed himself with a panga to protect his wife, Lynette, and their two children. The robbers beat him with a wooden beam. Steven King of SACCW noted that one of the robbers may have been injured during the fight.

“He sustained injuries to his head and leg. ER24 paramedics attended the scene and transported him to Hillcrest hospital,” he said. “The robbers fled with a laptop, an iPad, a tablet, a cellphone, a gaming console, jewellery and other valuables.”

A case of house robbery was opened at the local SAPS. “A big thank-you to the dedicated patrollers of SACCW Waterfall for containing and preserving the scene. The patrollers stayed with the victims until daybreak to make sure that they were safe,” said King.

Lynette Greenwood took to Facebook to thank the community for the support she received after the incident. “Our alarm was triggered before the suspects entered our house, they did not care that we knew they were here, stay safe and be careful. I would like to thank the local neighbourhood watch, Secure Link, Blue Security, ER24 and the SAPS K9 unit for everything you did to help us this morning, I was helped with lifts for my children to a safe friend’s house, my husband was fetched from the hospital and I was helped to clean up. I cannot thank you enough and all from strangers.”
