THE Grade R pupils at Gillitts Primary School now have a range of fun and educational toys to play with thanks to the goodwill of local residents and the determination of Tyrone Rudolph.

It was through his work that he was introduced to the school and felt a strong connection and the need to help. “I just felt that it would be a great way to help the children at the school and as a way to give back to the community as a little goes a long way,” said Tyrone.

He initially approached the Grade R teacher and queried if the children had any toys and when he was told they did not, it spurred him on to create an appeal on the Upper Highway Info Facebook page. “After the post went up I had a few people that messaged me to know they wanted to get involved in whatever way possible,” he said.

Over the course of a few months, he raised R2 000 and with this he purchased an array of age appropriate toys for boys and girls. “A thank you to the community for getting involved. To know that I could help to put a smile on a child’s face, there really is no better feeling,” said Tyrone.

Winston Park Primary School also donated 370 Easter eggs to be shared among all of the pupils in the school. “Besides the Easter egg donation, the school, its pupils, staff and parents have supported us in many ways. For many of the children at our school, they would not have otherwise had the privilege of receiving an Easter egg,” said Arti Jadoo, the principal of Gillitts Primary School.

She thanked Winston Park Primary School’s pupils, staff and parents as well as the Facebook page members who supported and donated towards the drive, and Tyrone. “I extend a thank you from our pupils, parents, staff and myself for these wonderful donations and support,” said Mrs Jadoo.
