Easter treat for children’s village

Easter came early for a few children at Ikethelo Children's Village in the Valley of 1 000 Hills as two companies joined together to host a treasure hunt.

THE children at Ikhethelo Children’s Village in the Valley of a 1 000 Hills were treated to a surprise Easter hunt by Hirsch’s Hillcrest and the KZN Factory Shop.

The two companies joined forces to make it an unforgettable morning for the children. Each of hidden Easter packages contained a bouncy ball, sherbet, balloons marshmallows and an edible watch. The children then hunted in the garden at the village for the bags of treats. We hosted this in celebration of Easter and as a way to spoil the children and put smiles on their faces,” said said Hirsch’s PRO, Taryn Taylor. “The children made a beautiful card saying thank you for making Easter special for them.”

The KZN factory shop donated two buckets filled with detergents and a R200 gift voucher.

“As we raise vulnerable children to wholeness, we unlock their potential. They are put in a loving family environment where they realise that they can be anything they want to be,” said Ruth Mthembu, the associate development director at Ikhethelo Children’s Village.

The Ikhethelo Children’s Village is not a stereotypical orphanage but instead tries to create a healthy home environment within each cottage/family, which itself is part of a vibrant, safe village community. Each family unit consists of a housemother caring for a group of eight children. The house parents are the foundation on which each family is built. They are drawn from the same cultural group as the children and are mothers to them, not just employees – they love and care for the children as if they were their own.
