Fundraiser proceeds to secure Winston Park

The Winston Park Guardians will use the funds raised a the Summer Nite Run to begin phase four of its security upgrades.

THE Summer Nite Run and Walk, a fundraising event for the Winston Park Guardians, raised more than R15 000 for the group.

The event was held on Friday, 26 February, with the start and finish at the Gillitts Squash Club, with 5km and 10km routes for the runners to choose from. According to Hayden Johnson, chairman of the Winston Park Guardians, 621 runners took part in the event. “We will be hosting another fundraiser run soon,” he said.

Jonathan Acutt and Deborah Snyman from Acutts handed over the cheque for R15 536 to the group recently. “This money has been earmarked to purchase surveillance equipment and other security equipment for the Winston park Guardians,” said Hayden. “A big thank-you to the Hillcrest SAPS, the Shongweni K9 Unit, the Metro Police K9 Unit and the Metro Police for giving us the most fantastic support.”

The Winston Park Guardians is a non-profit group that covers an area consisting of 650 houses and works towards crime prevention instead of reaction. With the funds raised from the run, the group will move into phase four of its security plans, installing number plate recognition software.

The next fundraiser run is set for Friday, 13 May and runners are urged to dress up to the Friday the 13th theme.
