Community helps arrest a hijacker

The man will appear in the Pinetown Magistrates' Court facing charges of attempted hijacking.

ONE of three men who tried to hijacke a woman driver in New Germany was arrested by the community on Thursday, 31 March.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele, said it is alleged that the victim had just parked her car along Henwood Road, New Germany when she was approached by three men.

“One of them allegedly pointed a gun at her and demanded her car keys. He grabbed the keys from the victim and got in the car.” Manqele said another driver who witnessed the incident was parked behind the victim’s vehicle.

“All three men fled the scene on foot and were chased by people who were in the vicinity, and one was eventually arrested,” he said.

The man will be charged for attempted hijacking and will appear in the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court soon.
