Miss South Africa upgrades learning at Fulton

With thanks to a donation from Miss South Africa 2015, Fulton School for the Deaf's intermediate phase's classrooms have received a technological upgrade.

FULTON School for the Deaf received a myriad of donated educational goods from Miss South Africa’s sponsorship drive.

“Liesl Laurie, Miss South Africa 2015, was on the radio station and was hosting a sponsorship drive and she offered the opportunity up to schools to send through a motivational letter for their pressing needs and why the donation was needed,” said Cheryl Devnath, the HOD for the intermediate phase at Fulton School for the Deaf. She sent through the letter and in November was notified that the letter had been chosen.

“I asked for goods that were needed by the intermediate phase as this year, a curriculum for South African sign language was introduced to schools for the deaf,” said Cheryl. The school received four projectors and four white boards, along with the necessary markers and cleaners as well as 15 tablets and covers.

“These were desperately needed and I have been wanting to get this equipment in for the pupils for a very long time but there just has never been the budget for it. I would like to thank Liesl for forwarding us this opportunity. Schools like ours don’t have funding for items such as this and it is so incredible and I am really grateful,” said Cheryl.
