Donation to boost confidence of pupils

Two pupils at Fulton School for the Deaf were chosen to receive new sound processors.

WITH thanks to a generous donor, two pupils at Fulton School for the Deaf received new sound processors.

Helen Hitchcock upgraded her own sound processors and donated her older ones to the Durban Cochlear Implant Programme. The sound processors were then reprogrammed and given to two pupils. “The pupils, Senkosi Majola and Siwongile Mlambo, have really old ones at the moment and these upgraded ones will enable clearer hearing and help them to cope better when there is background noise,” said Ayesha Osman, the audiologist at Fulton School for the Deaf.

The two pupils are boarders at the school and are two of the few who are still using the older technology. Ayesha likened their transition to upgrading from a BlackBerry Curve 8520 to the new range of smartphones. “We are just so excited for the new implants and are very grateful to have been chosen to receive them,” said Senkosi Majola and Sewongile Mlambo.

“We are so privileged to have a close working relationship with Fulton School for the Deaf and that we could help the two pupils in need,” said Julie Cardona, the mapping audiologist for the Durban Cochlear Implant Programme.
