Queensburgh church showcases ‘He Is Alive’

Four readers represented the Biblical characters at the time of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and each one tells their own story.

ROUND about this time of the year, every year, the choir at Christ Church in Queensburgh presents the Easter message in word and song. This year’s presentation titled He is Alive! was showcased on Sunday, 13 March and again on Sunday, 20 March.

Four readers represented the Biblical characters at the time of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and each one told their own story.

Pilate was read by Arthur Peterson, Simon of Cyrene by Iain Laing, Cleopas of Emmaus by Vic Deetlefs and Thomas by Paul Rimell.

Choir director, Sheila Peyers said songs sung at the presentation were selected from a variety of sources and arranged by herself and pianist, Trish Hanson.

“Although majority of the choir members do not read music, they have enjoyed the challenge of singing four part harmony. The opening song was a ladies trio, while Romika Deetlefs, Jasmine Nepgen, Daryn Mahabeer and Johann Coetzer each had a solo,”she said.

“As a choir we are dedicated to sharing with our listeners, our passion for music and the message it conveys and we do it for the Glory of God. Two of the songs from the presentation were also be sung on Easter Sunday morning, Peyters added.
