Toddler killed in M19 crash

The Fire Department had to use the jaws of life to free the trapped people.

THREE people, including a two-year-old baby, were killed and seven others injured in a head-on collision on the M19 west-bound near the Blair Atholl off-ramp on Sunday evening.

According to Garrith Jamieson from Rescue Care, two vehicles collided head-on in the wet weather.

“Paramedics found that three people from an SUV had died before their arrival, including a two-year-old child. Seven people had sustained serious injuries and more resources were called to assist.”

Jamieson said the eThekwini Fire Department had to use the jaws of life to free the trapped people while advanced life support paramedics worked to stabilise them.

“The injured were all transported to hospital and it is still unclear what caused the head-on collision at this stage,” he said.
