Storm wreaks havoc in Pinetown area

Clean-up crews have been assigned accross the Highway area to tidy up the streets.

VARIOUS reports of last night’s storm damage have been spreading through social media, however not all are true.

One report said that a portion of Stapleton Road in Pinetown has been washed away after last night’s storm, however roving reporters took a photo of a tree that had fallen over on the side of Stapleton Road, leaving debris of sand in the road. Rubbish and litter was also washed up in the storm, leaving a big mess.

Sherri Carmen Barnes posted on the Upper Highway Info Facebook page: “It’s before the one bridge by the freeway off-ramp. Didn’t get any pics, but it’s by the Precast cement products factory. Quite big tree stumps washed up and mud across the road, but not blocking it – we drove through it this morning at about 6.45am, everyone was driving slow due to mud.”

Another road that was badly affected was Caversham Road in Pinetown near the new Mercedes building. The road was flooded yesterday and resembled a river flowing down into Caversham Glen. A clean-up crew is currently pumping the water down the road and this could cause the road to be slippery. Motorists are urged to keep a safe distance and drive with caution.
