Overgrown verges annoy residents

According to one of the residents, tree branches have been left lying on the side of the road for about a month.

OVERGROWN verges and a neglected road have now become a problem for the residents in Eastleigh Crescent in Kloof, especially motorists.

According to one of the residents, Lindo Dube, municipal workers cut trees along the road about a month ago and left the tree branches lying on the side of the road.

Dube said they have been patient, hoping that they would return to pick up the plant refuse. “When the workers came to cut the trees, we were happy that the overgrown verges are going to be cleared also.

”These verges have narrowed the double-lane road into one lane because they are growing on both sides of the road. This has had an effect on the flow of traffic and created a stop-and-go situation,” he said.

Ward 10 councillor, Rick Crouch, said he was not aware of this problem as no one had contacted him. “I am assuming that it was a municipal contractor that was tasked with that job. It could have happened that the tender was cancelled and the Parks Department was not aware of it.

”The tender problems have been going on for some time, residents should direct their complaints to the municipality,” said Crouch.
