Crashes leave several injured

A total of 18 people sustained injuries on Sunday, 13 March.

TWO people sustained serious injuries when a head-on collision took place along Wiltshire Road in the Marian Park industrial area of Pinetown on Sunday, 13 March.

Paramedics from Netcare 911 and the provincial services found the crumpled remains of the vehicles and accident debris littering the road.

Netcare 911’s Chris Botha said, “Exact details of the cause of the crash are still speculative and will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.”

After triaging the injured, it was found that two people sustained serious injuries and they were taken to hospital.

In a separate incident on Sunday evening, 16 people were injured and an area was left with no electricity when a taxi rolled, crashed into an electricity pole and landed in a veld.

The incident took place on Fischer Road near a taxi rank close to the Inanda Dam. ER24 paramedics, provincial paramedics and other services arrived on scene and found that the taxi had rolled about 200 metres.

“It is understood that some patients had been ejected from the taxi while others were taken out by bystanders. Patients were assessed by paramedics and treated for minor to moderate injuries. They were then transported to several local hospitals for further medical care. The exact cause of the incident is unknown,” said ER24 spokesperson, Chitra Bodasing.

Authorities were on scene for further investigations.
