US graduates teach at local school

The two graduates are part of the Fulbright US student programme, which offers research, study and teaching opportunities in over 140 countries to recent graduates and graduate students.

SITHOKOZILE Secondary School in KwaDabeka was one of the few schools that was appointed American graduates to teach at the school.

Savannnah West and Jolie De Feis were appointed through UKZN to teach at the school because of their good relationship over the years.

The two graduates are part of the Fulbright US student programme, which offers research, study and teaching opportunities in over 140 countries to recent graduates and graduate students.

West and De Feis teach English and life orientation and help with extra-curricular activities for all grades. West said they were fortunate to be part of this programme and the school has welcomed them warmly.

“We have been made to feel home and we can express our own ideas. We are learning so much here and we are willing to share our knowledge, it is a give and take experience,” she said.

Principal of the school, Raphael Mtheku, said they would like to see this programme going from strength to strength.

“English is the language of instruction and we need to master it. This is the year of making a difference and I believe that West and De Feis will make help us achieve good results this year.”

Mtheku also thanked the school HOD, Ntokozo Dlamini, for her hard work in making this project possible.
