German festival celebrates Easter

Two thirds of the proceeds will go to the APN Retirement Homes and the balance of the money will be given to local charities.

EASTER time is closing in and locals are urged to show their support for local charities.

Members of the Lutheran Churches in Durban, Westville and New Germany have had their hands full preparing for their annual Easter festival, which takes place at the Deutsche Schule Durban (German School), 34 Stafford Road in Cowies Hill on Saturday, 12 March from 9am to noon. Two thirds of the proceeds will go to the APN Retirement Homes and the balance of the money will be given to local charities.

Since January, members of the church have been busy transforming more than 1 000 eggs into brightly coloured, eye-catching Easter eggs filled with sweets. The eggs will be on sale at the festival, which features entertainment for the whole family.

Visitors can enjoy entertainment by a brass band, and the Deutsche Schule Durban Choir, children’s games and an Easter bunny hopping around. There will be all sorts of hand-made arts and crafts on sale, and a coffee bar with German cold meats and braai meat on sale. Contact Bruni on 031 572 3697.
