Ashton is an equestrian star

Ashton Ensor-Smith has been chosen as Westville Girls' High School's SPAR Star of the Month.

IN any school, there are certain girls who are so outstanding that they move beyond the parameters of the school.

It was to recognise their rare and outstanding achievements that the Cum Laude and Honours Awards were developed at Westville Girls’ High School.

The school recently celebrated the exceptional achievements of one such pupil, who, since Grade 8, has demonstrated a high level of performance in the equestrian field of sport.

Ashton Ensor-Smith represented KZN teams and SANESA teams every year since she was in Grade 8. She represented the 1.20m KZN show-jumping team and is currently first in South Africa juniors in this height. She represented SA in the Inter-Africa Championships and competed against Namibia and Zambia last year, where she came first individually.

She is FEI ranked (Federation Equestrian International), which means that she qualifies to compete in the World Junior Olympics one day.

Ashton has also competed in the SA Pony Club comps, which are internationally-recognised, since the age of five and received her South African Pony Club colours for show-jumping, equitation and dressage.

Her most prestigious achievement to date is that she currently holds the South African show-jumping record at 1.75m. Ashton’s goal this year is to break her current South African record as well as her re-selection to KZN and SA competitions on two of her younger horses, with which she is currently in training.

It’s through these achievements that Westville Girls’ High School has chosen Ashton as its SPAR Star of the Month.
