Kloof SPCA releases 2015 stats

THE Kloof and Highway SPCA recently released its impact statistics for its Inspectorate Department for the 2015 year.

– 1 105 cruelty complaints

– 79 rescues including farm animals, wildlife, pets and reptiles

– 2 119 collections of unwanted, stray, sick and injured animals

– 3 230 after-hour calls

– 112 pro-active investigations checking on security dogs, boarding facilities, grooming parlours, animal farms, sale yards, pet shops, chicken farms, traditional slaughters and animal exhibitions

– The slaughter of approximately 5 400 sheep, goats and cattle were monitored

– Over 375 animals were collected to be sterilised under its outreach programme and more than 450 animals were sterilised as part of on-site outreach campaigns in the underprivileged areas

– 11 cases of animal cruelty were opened at the SAPS and two guilty pleas were obtained in cruelty cases

– 53 dogs were taken off chains and are now running free

We won’t stand by while an animal suffers,” said Barbara Patrick, manager of the Kloof and Highway SPCA.
