Pupils dream big for business comp

High school pupils around the Highway area will be competing for the national BIG title in March this year.

THE Business Idea Generation Competition for this year had a successful launch recently, with a host of local schools competing.

The project manager, Nico de Klerk, met with the principals and teachers in entrepreneurship and he said the project was met with enthusiasm. “Everybody received a handout with all relevant information about the competition for pupils as well as the competition for the teachers. All schools will participate and the next step is to introduce BIG to the learners,” said Nico. Teams have registered and submitted their written business plans.

This will be followed by each school’s internal competition until Friday, 12 February and the submission of each school’s winning team. “The winning teams will then prepare for the final event on Friday, 11 March, of which the winning team will represent KZN in the national competition during May,” said Nico.

Another meeting for members of the Pinetown community also went well and twelve individuals attended the meeting. According to Nico, he is highly impressed and inspired with the interest shown and willingness to find a way of becoming involved. “Three students from the University of KZN took me for dinner the previous evening just to find out more, seeing that they are already busy with a project of their own. A lecturer from the business school of the University of KZN drove all the way to meet me and surely is going to be involved,” said Nico.
